for papers: The Malawi Law Journal Launch
16-17 July 2008
The Editorial Board of the Malawi Law Journal invites scholars
and practitioners to submit papers for consideration for presentation
at a conference that will launch the Malawi Law Journal on
16-17 July 2008 in Blantyre, Malawi. The
Journal, an initiative of the Malawi Law Society, the Faculty
of Law of the University of Malawi and the Malawi Legal Diaspora,
is a peer reviewed academic journal published biannually in
June and November. It was founded primarily to address the
shortage of academic and practice-oriented literature on legal
developments and jurisprudence in Malawi. It publishes articles
that explore the interface, tension and congruence between
law, human rights, democracy, and development in Malawi and
other developing countries, especially those from Africa.
The conference, which is entitled Malawian law and
jurisprudence in the new constitutional and global order:
False starts, landmarks and sticking points, will
explore a range of issues that interrogate the relevance of
law and legal thought in shaping Malawi’s new constitutional
order and its engagement to the globalising influence of international
law. The conference will be organised along five cross-cutting
sub-themes including legal development and law reform, law
and sustainable development, regional integration and development,
democratisation and constitutionalism, and politics and the
law. Although the editors reserve editorial discretion, authors
are encouraged to indicate under which sub-theme their paper
falls.
Papers presented at the conference will be considered for
inclusion in the November 2008 issue of the Malawi Law Journal.
Details on style as well other information for authors is
available at http://www.lawjournal.mw.
Please send the title of your proposed paper by email along
with a 200-word abstract, your contact details and professional
affiliation to: Prof Danwood Mzikenge Chirwa at Danwood.Chirwa@uct.ac.za
by 30 March 2008. Authors will be expected
to submit full papers by 30 June 2008.
