The
Malawi Law Society was established as a body corporate by the Legal
Education and Legal Practitioners Act 1965.
Secretariat
Our
Secretariat is based in Blantyre, and hosts the Legal Resources
Centre which holds a range of legal publications and law reports
and which is visited by lawyers, law students and members of the
public.
Objectives
The
Malawi Law Society's (Society) objectives include:
- to
represent, protect and assist legal practitioners as regards
conditions of practice and otherwise;

to present the views of legal practitioners and sustain and
preserve their rights and status;
- to
engage in formal or informal activities designed to foster and
extend the study of law and for the benefit both of members
of the Society or other persons interested in the legal profession;

to protect and assist the public in Malawi on all matters touching,
ancillary or incidental to the law;
- to
acquire, hold, develop or dispose of property and to deprive
capital or income therefrom, for all or any of its objects;
- to
raise or borrow money for all or any of its objects in such
manner and upon such security as may from time to time be determined
by the Society;
- to
invest and deal with moneys of the Society not immediately required
in such a manner as may be determined by the Society;
- to
do all such other things as are incidental or conducive to the
attainment of its objects.
